Making the world new is Jesus' mission and our mission

Jesus went to Nazareth where He had been brought up.  On Sabbath day He went to the synagogue, as was His custom. He stood up to read. The scroll of of the Prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. After reading He said to them: "Today, this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing". (See Luke 4:14-21).

It was a  statement of His identity as the Messiah - a declaration of who He is and why He had come.

The recipients of the "Good News" were to be first and foremost, the poor as promised in the Beatitudes.

Evangelization is more than proclaiming God's forgiveness and committing our lives to God.  It is also, caring for the least of these.

Jesus healed the diseased, the lame, showed empathy for the poor, feed the hungry, restored sight to the blind. In tangible ways Jesus cared about addressing poverty, disease, and human brokenness.

The mandate to "Go into the whole world..." includes tangible compassion for the sick, the poor and justice. It calls for efforts to right the wrongs in this world.

The Gospel is truly the "Good News" for the poor. It is a foundation of a social revolution with the power to change the world.

Changing the world is Jesus' mission. It is also, the mission of all who claims to follow Him.

Changing the world is the mission of the Church. It is your mission. It is my my mission.
